Strobing 101: How To Look Like You’re Naturally Glowing

How to strobe like a pro

Radiant skin starts with a healthy diet and a good skincare regime, but many of us would love to see instant results. Is there nothing you want more than to look like you just swallowed a light bulb? You don’t need to chug carrot juice all day to get this look as long as you have a highlighter in your makeup bag. Strobing, contouring’s fresher-faced cousin, is a makeup trend that’s taking the world by storm. If you love the no-makeup makeup look, then strobing is perfect for you. It might sound complicated, but it’s quite possibly one of the easiest makeup trends to replicate.

Step 1: Use A Primer

Primer helps your foundation go on smoother

A lot of products go into making you look like you have no makeup and primer is a very important one. A primer smooths your skin, filling pores and wrinkles to make it look like your skin is naturally flawless. Think of it as airbrushing in a bottle. You can use a regular primer, but since you want to look radiant, you can use an illuminating primer when you’re strobing.

2: Select A Foundation

oundation needs to look as close to your natural skin tone as possible

The next step is putting on your foundation. Your foundation needs to match your complexion perfectly. A foundation that’s too dark for you can make your complexion look muddy, while a shade that’s too light can make you look unnaturally chalky. Use a damp sponge or a foundation brush to blend your foundation. If you don’t need too much coverage, you can even use a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer. These look more natural and are perfect for when you want a fresh-faced, glowing look.

Step 3: Conceal

Conceal any blemishes and the high points of your face

When you’re going for a naturally radiant, dewy look, the last thing you need are tired under eye circles and red zits making their presence known. Choose a liquid or cream concealer that’s two shades lighter than your skin tone and conceal any dark circles or redness. If you want to go the extra mile, you could use color correcting concealer. Green concealers cover redness, while salmon colored concealers can make dark circles vanish. Apart from problem areas, you’ll also want to apply concealer on the high points of your face. Apply it down the bridge of your nose, on your chin, on your brow bone and in a ‘C’ shape from your cheekbone to above your brow bone. Blend this with a brush or a dampened sponge.

4: Set

Setting powder helps prevent you from looking greasy

Once you apply your concealer, set it with translucent powder. This prevents oil from building up in concealed areas and forming creases. Setting with a translucent powder gives you a poreless, airbrushed look that lasts for hours. Make sure you brush off the excess though because the last thing you want is for your makeup to look cake-ey. Setting your makeup with translucent powder is important also because it helps to soak up excess oil that builds up on your face. You want to look naturally glowing, not greasy.

5: Highlight

Choose a highlighter that works perfectly for you and highlight the high points of your face

Here comes the fun part! When you’re selecting a highlighter, make sure you match it to your skin tone. If you have a very pale skin tone, iridescent whites or pale pink highlighters are perfect for you. If you have a medium, olive-toned complexion, champagne highlighters can make your skin come to life. If you have deeper skin tones, then you can pull off true gold highlighters. Highlighters come as liquids, powders or creams so choose one that works best for you. When you apply a highlighter, you need to focus on the high points of your face that naturally reflect light. Dab some highlighter on your cheekbones, your brow bone, the bridge of your nose and your chin. You can also apply a little highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes to make them seem brighter. A tiny bit of highlighter on your cupid’s bow will make your lips look fuller. Once your highlighter is set, you can spritz your face with finishing spray to set your makeup and give you a dewy look. Now all that’s left is to go outside and accept all the compliments you get from people for your glowing skin.
