What do you know about bhringraj? This herb is technically a weed, but in the eyes of Ayurveda, it’s an amazing medicinal herb. It goes by “false daisy” in English and “bhringraj” or “bhringoraj” in Bangladesh and India. And as an oil, it might be the hair loss remedy you’ve always needed.
After all, hair is a significant part of who we are. It is also perfectly normal to lose 50 to 100 strands a day, but anything more can be really alarming. Getting older only makes it worse, with about 80 million Americans experiencing hair loss with age.1 For others, hair loss is a side effect of medicine, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalances, stress, or nutrient deficiencies.2
But don’t be so quick to buy products with minoxidil. It’s known to cause unpleasant side effects like itching, swelling, scaling, and dermatitis.3 Bhringraj oil is a different story. On the scalp, it promotes the completion of the hair growth cycle. Animal studies have even found that it works just as well as minoxidil, if not better.4 To top it off, you can skip the chemicals and toxins!
1. Bhringaraj Scalp Oil
Traditionally, bhringraj oil is potent enough to be used by itself. This option is ideal for folks who like to keep things sweet and simple.
- Warm 2 tablespoons bhringraj oil over low heat.
- Massage into your roots, moving in a circular motion.
- After 30 minutes, rinse with shampoo and water.
2. Peppermint Scalp Oil
- Prepare the scalp oil as above.
- Add 5 to 10 drops of peppermint essential oil.
- Stir well and massage into scalp.
- After 30 minutes, rinse out as usual.
3. Coconut Scalp Mask
Often, itching dry and irritated scalp worsens hair loss. Put an end to it with coconut milk, a highly moisturizing remedy.6
- Prep 1 tablespoon coconut milk with 1 tablespoon bhringraj oil.
- Mix well.
- Massage into roots.
- Rinse out after 30 minutes.
Additional Benefits Of Bhringraj For The Hair
1. Controls Stress
Stress is a common reason behind hair loss. However, bhringraj can relax the body and mind, making it the best option for a scalp oil.7 It’s like a 2-for-1 deal! Whenever you’re feeling tense, massage the oil into your head and body.
2. Treats Skin Inflammation
An angry and inflamed scalp certainly won’t help hair loss. Luckily, applying bhringraj oil will also soothe inflammation.8 This perk is especially useful if you’re prone to dandruff, dryness, or an allergic reaction.
